Morning Buzz: Paul McCartney, Mates of State, Merle Haggard

:: Paul McCartney will be reissuing his post-Beatles catalog. I’m reminded of a great Simpsons moment. Cult deprogrammer: “My greatest achievement was getting Paul McCartney out of Wings.” Homer: “You idiot! He was the most talented one!”

:: Nothing says metal like Every Time I Die and Cute Is What We Aim For… or at least that’s what former ETID and current CIWWAF drummer Mike Novak might have you believe. Also, feel free to make fun of the picture in the interview. It’s deserved.

:: Want to display your records for cheap? Vinyl Collective has a good option.

:: Daath and Levi/Werstler guitarist Eyal Levi gave MetalSucks a list of his top underrated guitarists.

:: How come Kori and Jason from Mates of State look like they’ve had a lot of plastic surgery — even though they look like they haven’t had any — for the cover of their upcoming record.

:: Aquarium Drunkard has Merle Haggard records to give away. Hells yes, Merle Haggard!

:: Random tracks that don’t suck:

so, i think i’ve gushed about titus andronicus a couple times already on buzzgrinder. but i have to do it once more.
    .
because i had never heard of ken burns or his civil war documentary before monday. and today i watched the episode that covers monitor v. merrimack and i thought it was one of the best parts of the series i’d seen so far.
    .
so when i read the first part of that article, i was pleased to connect the fact that the new album’s ‘about’/called ‘the monitor’ and that i had just watched something about the ship.
    .
then in paragraph five, fella cites ken burns’s documentary as the inciting incident for writing the entire album. and i had a massive nerdgasm. seriously. civil war seamen all over the room.
    .
and i can’t help but think that this is what pop culture is made for.
    .
    cheers.
