Superdrag’s John Davis, Big Star Members Pay Tribute to Alex Chilton

Big star tribute with John Davis

Not sure how I missed this news initially (I was probably painting my dining room) — but man, I wish I could drive down to Memphis’ Overton Park tomorrow for this tribute the late Alex Chilton.

It features Superdrag‘s John Davis and members of the original and reformed Big Star lineup among others. Here’s more info on that show and a couple others:

John Davis of classic Knoxville indie legends Superdrag pays tribute to Alex Chilton, assuming vocal and guitar duties with founding Big Star members Jody Stephens and Andy Hummel, along with Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies, who went on to make up the reformed Big Star from 1993 onward. A rotating cast of friends, followers, and contemporaries will join in throughout the evening, including REM‘s Mike Mills, The Raconteurs‘ Brendan Benson, Van Duren, and Tommy Hoehn. Tickets to this one-of-a-kind, definitive tribute and final performance by the remaining members of Big Star playing under the namesake, are $20 general admission. Doors open at 6 p.m., and music kicks off sharply at 7 p.m.

In addition, Davis participates in two more Alex Chilton tributes throughout the state this month, including the MusicCares benefit at Nashville’s Mercy Lounge on May 21, and ‘O My Soul: A Tribute to Alex Chilton: at East Nashville’s The 5 Spot on the 22nd.
