Maritime’s new album, Human Hearts, is out today. And not only did the band allow Buzzgrinder to stream the whole thing, but the guys were also kind enough to take over posting duties for the day. Gives us time to prepare for our IFOCE fantasy league draft.
I know the readers of Buzzgrinder are already pretty independent minded as far as their musical tastes are concerned, but I was hoping to talk a bit about independent news sources. As many of you already know, the mainstream media outlets in this country don’t always provide accurate, unbiased and reliable information regarding the issues that impact our daily lives.
Because of this, it’s important — and oftentimes necessary — to dig a little deeper to ensure the information you’re receiving is credible. The Internet makes this once tedious task relatively simple. There are now plenty of independent, publicly-supported news sites that provide focused, fact-based news free of corporate or commercial bias.
Now, I have no problem admitting that some of the websites I’m about to list come off as a little left leaning, but rest assured, they pride themselves on covering all sides of the stories they report on. Well, enough of the soapbox for now. Check out these sites: ProPublica.org, DemocracyNow.org and Truthdig.com.
For some interesting editorials, CounterPunch.org also provides some refreshing perspectives. Keep in mind that this is by no means an exhaustive list, but just a suggestion based on some of the tools that have helped me to become a little more informed than I was before.
