In The Face Of War - We Make Our Own Luck [myspace.com/inthefaceofwar]
Release date: October 20, 2006
I like this because the design doesn’t look necessarily hardcore punkish. See also the metal band James Dean Trio’s “Getting Scary” as another example of disconnect between cover art and genre.
These are some of the album I’ve been listening to non-stop in the past few months. I wanted to devote a little more “ink” to some of the better material I get in the mail, and also to give credit to some of the stuff that has held my attention for longer than a week. Some of the stuff is “older” by a few months - you all should know we’re not all up on the whole “reviewed on the release date” game. Anyways….
Fear Before the March of Flames - Art Damage
Yes, I know. This came out in September of 2004 but that just goes to show I much I love this album. FBTMOF pushes some boundries of the metalcore genre, without relying to much on the chugg-chugg-wee antics of a lot of releases in months past. These guys are all over the place, kicking up dust and making me smile for the past few months. [Buy it]
The James Dean Trio - Getting Scary
Another oldie, but I can’t get out of the past. I hope their next album is as moving, progressive, and fun as this one. [Buy it]
Lumberjack Distribution Spring 2003 Sampler
2003?! What the heck? Sorry, but I’m a softie for the Kid Gorgeous track, which is about two years ahead the latest Norma Jean. Oh snap! Did I say that? [(try to) Buy it]
All I Want For Christmas - Lujo Compilation
Such a varied bunch of artists with a nice low-key, well… Christmas feel. With spring upon me I enjoy this album for taking me back to the Holidays. [Buy it]
The Showdown - A Chorus Of Obliteration
Tons of people are talking about this album, for good reason. This is the kind of metal that puts a smile on the face and makes you shake your head in disbelief over how they pull off some of the stuff on this CD. [Buy it]
Some others; VCR, Tom Waits, Solea, The Secret Machines, Norma Jean, Lovedrug, Foxhole, Curl up and Die, Baby Teeth, At the Drive In, Mars Volta,
This was in the inbox:
“The James Dean Trio are heading to Minnesota to record their follow up to “Getting Scary” this up-coming week. They will be recording an ep with former front man(who was the singer on GETTING SCARY) Jon Terry, with new vocalist John Raux. Plans on a release date and mp3s will follow in the future.”
Can’t wait to hear that - The James Dean Trio is some hot stuff, though their website could use some work.
