Ben from Armor For Sleep Vs. AbsolutePunk Kiddies

ben_armor_for_sleep.jpgBen Jorgensen, of Armor For Sleep, must have some time on his hands, judging by the 90,238,409,328 word manifesto he wrote defending his music and pointing his finger at kids who write nasty things on AbsolutePunk.

ap.net is kind of like a huge house with a lot of rooms in it. it started off as a mansion that had different bands performing in different rooms and had opened its doors for kids to come in and listen to these bands and talk amongst themselves about what was going on. i guess after a certain point the kids themselves began to own the whole fucking mansion and they became the ones in charge of who could come in and who played in what room.

In other words, “I liked it when only music magazines had the ability to critique my art. And those bloggers!? Who do they think they are??” The internet leveled the playing field for bands, but it also allowed for any dweeb with a computer to pretend to be a “big deal.” (more…)

Tim Towner Will Make Smartpunk Better, “Not Really” Says Jason Tate

smart_punk_logo.jpgIt appears that Smartpunk, the online mega store for all your punk rock needs, has been sold to someone — or SOMETHING. All we know at this time comes from the giant 2834029348 word blog post on the Smartpunk MySpace (since I’m not cool enough to be sent a press release about this, I guess):

“My name is Tim Towner and I’m excited to be one of the new co-owners and the new General Manager at SmartPunk.com.”

tim_towner.jpgTim? Tim Towner? (That was a Groundhogs Day reference.) Tim of The Daily Chorus? That’s good I guess. But uh oh, looks like we get some competition now!

“I’m excited to tell you that a new, interactive website will be coming out by the end of 2008. The site will continue to feature the best CDs, Tshirts and other merchandise. But the site will also take a turn into building a community. We will get into streaming music, music news, interviews, CD reviews, videos, fan/band interaction, digital downloads and much more.”

Music news and selling albums — what a perfect combination! I’m sure we’ll also read plenty of negative reviews for CDs that are sold in the store, right? And thank goodness there’ll be yet another place for me to find digital downloads. There certainly aren’t enough places for that. (more…)

Morning Buzz: Converge, Paramore, Pelican, The Meatmen

:: Headbangers Blog says Pelican guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec has a “dumb-ass tattoo.”

:: Buzznet buys Absolute Punk.

:: Paramore singer Hayley Williams listens to H20 and Set Your Goals; +10 scene points for her.

:: MTV Newsroom (wha??!) asks Lo-Fi Punk: Is Columbus, Ohio, the New Brooklyn? Ummm… does Ohio have better pizza? No. Case closed.

:: Some band’s singer left.

:: Cynic signed to Season of Mist and has posted an excerpt of a new song.

:: Oh yea, Converge cancelled in Philadelphia a few nights ago. That’s the second time in like, two years now. Lame.

:: The Meatmen are hijacking Fuzz.com for the day. They’ve taken control of all editorial and media functions. If you’ve heard any of their previous music, it should be a fun day.
