I’ll Be There: Manchester Orchestra, Fun, Audrye Sessions, Winston Audio in Nashville

I don’t usually travel to Nashville for shows, unless it’s something I really want to see. I mean, it’s Nashville. No offense to Nash Vegas Buzzgrinderers. It’s just that every time I go there, I’m bombarded by people who “know” everybody — even if it means they just saw the person in Wal Mart (true story: a guy told me he “knew” dudes from a band because he saw them in Wal Mart one time). Plus it’s two and a half hours away.

So that would mean I want to see Manchester Orchestra with Fun, Audrye Sessions and Winston Audio — for the first show of the tour, no less — pretty bad, right? Well, it’s fairly easy to tell based on how much I’ve been blabbing about the bands involved. Which means I’ll be at the Exit/In tomorrow night with bells on. Nothing else. Just bells.

UPDATE: We have the tour dates now. They’re at the bottom of the post

When I first heard about the possibility of this tour materializing a few weeks ago, I was almost flabbergasted. This might as well be titled the “Buzzgrinder Broke Us Tour.” It’s not that we’re getting big heads around here. I mean, nobody really “breaks” a band these days anymore. Especially a music blog with bad taste like us.

It’s just that this is unprecedented. Three bands that we were way ahead of the curve on — Manchester Orchestra, Fun and Winston Audio — are all heading out on tour together. Or at least for one date. And they’re all doing pretty well these days, too. Oh, and Audrye Sessions is on the bill, too. We didn’t discover them and all, but they’re still good.

Since there’s been no official announcement (this is based on a single concert poster, after all), there are no dates to report at this time. However, we’ll have them for you as soon as we get them.

New Releases: Thursday, Morrissey, The Appleseed Cast

Aside from the obvious big ones (Thursday, Morrissey, Trail of Dead, M. Ward, The Appleseed Cast, etc.), there are a few intriguing releases out today that might be flying a bit under the radar.

Neal Casal, second in command behind Ryan Adams in The Cardinals, has his new one out. Amazon says it’s an import, so maybe it’s not actually out yet or it came out a while ago. Either way, Casal is a solid songwriter that will scratch that alt.country itch.

Protected: Massive Samples collects the original songs that Massive Attack has sampled over the years.

Dark Was the Night is a two-disc comp to raise money for AIDS relief. It includes original tracks by pretty much everyone awesome: Iron & Wine, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, Arcade Fire… you get the picture. Definitely worth checking out.
