Rushmore is my favorite Wes Anderson movie, and one of my favorite movies in general. Which is why I can’t decide whether or not I like this Company of Thieves video. Is it a delightful homage? Or a blatant, lazy rip off? I can’t tell. Thoughts?
This isn’t a design that makes blood shoot out your eyes with its optical tomfoolery (like a recent one we looked at), but it cuts back a but, I think because it’s a natural photograph. Sure, there’s the opposing, repeating geometries, but it’s understated. They’re saying, “Hey, take a gander at this release and maybe the music,” not, “Our designer totally wants to nauseate you with our visuals, bro! We’re twisted!”
Thank you, Company of Thieves, wherever you are — probably within the Boston-D.C. metro corridor, judging by your tour schedule.
Pretty weak release week. Other than a few big names that are past their prime, the one album I highly recommend is Laura Gibson‘s Beasts of Seasons. Arguably one of the best releases of the year so far.
